of mississippi after a round of severe weather. a tornado tore through the city of hattiesburg on sunday. more than 60 people areunder and hundreds of homes were damaged in at least three counties. there are reports of damage on the campus of the university of southern mississippi but no injuries. parts of the northeast are working to get things ready for the morning commute following this weekend's blizzard. subways and buses will be pretty much back to normal in new york city today and transportation officials in boston are working to get service back on a regular schedule. most airlines say they are running on close to normal schedules. thousands of homes and businesses are still in the dark mostly in massachusetts. the storm is blamed for at least 15 deaths across the northeast and in canada. canad there is tucker barnes. good morning to you. >> we couldn't wait to get to you. >> talk about a surprise. that could have been awkward.

let's go right to the hd radar. we have rain showers moving through. the next couple of hours, we'll have showers move through. the rain will quickly move out. we'll have a lot of clouds around but along with the rain showers, milder temperatures on the way. we'll surge into the 50s later this afternoon. temperatures should gradually warm up a little later today as we get a little punch of warmer air. some of our viewers up to the north up towards westminster and hagerstown, we'll get micking with some sleet there. that is the only part of the forecast here that is at all tricky. temperatures right now at reagan national in the upper 30s at 39 degrees and mid-30s at the local airports. so we're not concerned with any freezing conditions out there, just wet roadways for your morning commute. lots more on the forecast. got appear interesting week. maybe some more winter weather on the way. we begin our check of today's top stories in prince george's county. an elderly woman found murdered in her capital heights home and

police continue their search identify suspect. police found 71-year-old geraldine mcintire dead in her home on saturday afternoon. a reward is up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest. the massive manhunt continues for a former lapd officer accused of killing three people. a $1 million reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of christopher dorner o sunday, a home improvement store in los angeles was evacuated after someone spotted a person resembling the fugitive. so far, there is no evidence that he was there. back now to those severe storms that hit parts of the south on sunday. fox's mary ann rafferty has a closer look at the aftermath. >> reporter: a string of sundays tear across parts of the southeast. at least 10 tornadoes were reported. hattiesburg, mississippi was one of the hardest hit areas. a twister traveled down one of

the town's main streets and caused what officials describe as major damage. at the the university of mississippi, windows were busted out and litter is strewn across the campus. campus police have declared a state of emergency. a new weather situation is causing some concern. >> aside from tornadoes, damaging wind gusts or even large hail from the thunderstorms, we also do have the concern of flash flooding and flash flood warnings have also been issued across many of the same counties that were hit by tornadoes or possible tornadoes. flooding has occurred already and has been reported. >> reporter: although it isn't typical to see such wild weather at this time of year, the tornado season is well under way. >> it is pretty unusual to be seeing severe weather during the month of february. we had another outbreak of tornadoes during the month of january. so we are starting a little bit early. >> reporter: the mississippi governor is expected to survey the storm damage on sunday.

about a slippery commute as temperatures are well above freezing. 37 at dulles and bwi marshall. we'll warm up into the 50s today. later this afternoon, as we get warmer air surging behind this frontal system moving through, we should warm up into the mid- 50s. warmer temperatures on the way. there are your rain showers. generally 95 east and north now. we'll see a few more showers from time to time here over the next couple of hours. but i think by 8:00, 9:00. the rain should start to move out. we'll be left way little clouds around later today. -- with a little clouds around later today. things are changing rapidly. warmer temperatures today. maybe a little late day sun around the 5:00 p.m. hour. it will just rain for the next several hours. should be out of here by 8:00, 9:00.

>> thank you. if you are set to head out in northeast d.c. right now, watch out for fire crews on field place near eastern avenue. they are currently battling a large fire in what is believed to be a vacant building in the 5800 block of field place. we'll bring you updates as soon as we get them. a news alert out of prince george's county this morning. police are searching for a suspect in the murder of a 71- year-old woman, geraldine mcintyre, found dead in her home on chapel oaks drive on saturday afternoon. police don't have a motive at this point. >> there was investigation as to whether there was forced entry, whether the person was let in or what it could possibly be. >> there is a reward of up to

$25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case. checking our other top stories this morning, people in mississippi continue to cheap up the damage after a tornado touches down there. it ripped through the town of hattiesburg sunday. more than 60 injuries are report and the twist are caused significant damage including on the campus of the university of southern mississippi and a local high school. the wild winter weather in the northeast continues tomorrow pact residents there. more than 200,000 people are still without power following this weekend's massive blizzard. most of the outages are in the boston area. schools in the city remain closed today. transportation officials say they are work to make sure this morning's commute is as smooth as possible. they are urging people to use mass transit or work from home if possible. >> anything that you can do to help us knock the piles down on the intersections are going to help public safety. shoveling sidewalks i know will take a couple of days. but if you are walking in the street, just be very, very

careful. we don't want to see a lot of pedestrian accidents. use caution. >> airports and train stations are also getting back to normal. airlines say they are operating on a close to normal schedule in the area. amtrak has limited service between new york and boston. b a big story this morning, the massive manhunt continues in california for a former lapd officer accused of killing three people. on sunday, a home improvement store was evacuated after police received a tip saying someone resembling 33-year-old christopher dominican republicker was seen inside. police arrived on the scene but have not commented on what they found. a $1 million reward has been offered for information leading to his arrest. >> this is an act of domestic terrorism. this is a man who has targeted those that we entrust to

shot. three people have been taken into custody in the death of 15-year-old hediah pendleton. he was shot only days after performing at president obama's inauguration. republican senator lindsay graham is resolving no confirmation without information. we have the story. >> reporter: there could be an attempt to hold up two important no, ma'am nations until the white house answers more questions about benghazi. during that attack, senator lindsay graham wants to know whether the president reached out personally to libyan leaders. he said the nomination of chuck hagel to head the department of defense and john brennan as cia chief could be sidetrackedded until senators get the answers they want. graham has serious concerns about whether the president did enough to stop the attacks that killed four americans. >> i do believe, if he had

welcome back. one baby in massachusetts apparently didn't get the news that her city was dealing with a massive blizzard this weekend. she was ready to arrive, storm or not. her mom went into labor right in the middle of the blizzard as it slammed worcester, massachusetts. emts could not reach her so the national guard had to move in to help. >> it is a blessing. i can't put it any other way. we had people coming in and out of the house trying to help us get through so we could get my

girlfriend and my daughter into the ambulance and try to make it to the hospital fast as we can. >> we are told mom and baby are doing fine. >> i can't even imagine. >> i'm crazy just thinking. >> of your children being born let alone all that being born. >> we've got to pull the windshield wipers out a lot for the camera. >> we got a lot of rain, some wet roads and one windshield wiper going in front of the camera. >> you will have two out in your car t won't rain all day. that is good news. most of the day will be kind of cloudy out there. might be a the late day sun. 4:00 or 5:00 today. >> it will pop out and go right back in. >> temperatures are going to warm up so if you are like julie and you want warmer temperatures, mid others today. >> can't be too picky when you see what is going occupy north. be glad we don't have 30 inches of snow. >> a lot of issues up there. we are too warm for anything

other than rain here with the exception of a few of us off to the north, up into northern maryland, southern pennsylvania. you see that pink. that is light sleet that we've been getting mixing in with some of our rain showers notch issues with winter weather for our morning commute. that is good news. i can pretty much guarantee that most of the us will have a wet roadway or two. heaviest of the rain to the east of the district. some of the yellows out towards annapolis, severna park up towards glen burnie and baltimore. back out to the west, still some rain back out 270. i'll let julie identify the roads. we are still getting light shower activity and this is all breezing on through to the north and east and it should be out of here by 8:00, 9:00 this morning. let me show you the bigger picture. we are looking at a couple of frontal systems moving through. let's go to the next map. as we do so, you can see some pink and white up to the north. on top of that two feet of snow they got into southern new

england, they will be dealing with a period of sleet, snow and eventually some rain which will only make matters worse up there. out to the west, we do have a couple of fronts out here. we will get a temporary warm-up today and then later tonight as we clear out, the cooler temperatures will start to work n highs later this afternoon should be in the mid-50s. out to the west and to the north, that is actually the area of low pressure associated with all the storminess at this hour. hears a look at current temperatures. a good thing they are not any cooler or we would be dealing with ice. 37 in baltimore. 34 in hagerstown. early showers, cloudy and warmer this afternoon. 57 the daytime high. winds out of the south and west at about five to 10. 36 tonight, clearing skies. an accu-weather seven-day forecast, tomorrow looks great, sunshine, 52 degrees. we cloud up wednesday night. i think by thursday afternoon, thursday night, we could have a period of rain and/or snow around here. we have to fine tune that

forecast. looks like a coastal storm that may try to get going here. thursday and friday look good. we have to do it this weekend. still a lot of question marks. all right. that is a look at weather. let's do some traffic and see what is changing out there on the roads. >> got some problems happening over there, mr. barnes? >> got a little junk in the trunk this morning. did you see that? jacket sticking straight up. >> i try not to look. focusing on traffic cameras only. you will find in the rain southbound 270 is incident-free coming south from 109. a lot of road spray kicking up in your face. the wipers getting a workout. no issues reported right now as you travel southbound headed in towards germantown. we should get used to this by now. any kind of precipitation on the roads means your commute will be delayed.

think ahead. plan early. you might as well leave now. you know it is going to get backed up. traffic running smoothly continuing out of staffer ford headed up into woodbridge in both the express lanes and main line headed out to 395. 395 in good shape at this point headed to the southeast- southwest freeway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. e traffic. a surge in red light camera tick nets rockville has drivers upset. the cameras are issuing tickets to drivers stopped just beyond the white line so although cars are not moving, drivers are still being ticketed. drivers say this is just a way to generate more money from tickets. the city says the red light violations occur when the white line boundary is crossed and the new cameras help enforce that. up north, hundreds of thousands of people waking up again today in dark and cold homes. power crews have been working around the clock since the blizzard moves out. as nicole jacobs shows us, eastern massachusetts got hit

hard. >> reporter: the crackle of a fireplace sets a cozy scene but for susan and kate, there is no other way, at least for the next couple of days. they've been without power since friday. >> two trees down across the street, one of them definitely happening in the power lines. >> reporter: that is what has led to. this they are now forced to use other means of heat, light and cooking. >> the power went out and the man said well, if they could get here, it is an easy fix. >> reporter: but when is the big question. they are just two of hundreds around the town of falmouth dealing with the aftermath of a blaze arrested that dumped several inches, in some cases, feet of snow. the unplowed roads making the wait longer. >> there are people in massachusetts who still don't have power and if they don't have power, and they're cold, they have a place to go.

the debate over same-sex marriage played out in front of an oregon bakery this weekend i don't is it started when the bakery refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple. we have a report. >> reporter: honks of support saturday afternoon for about 50 protestors outside sweet cakes by melissa in gresham. >> my sign says can't we all just eat cake and i have equal rights for all. >> the bakery's owners whipped up a huge controversy last week refusing to bake a lesbian couple's wedding cake. >> if it had been a black couple, people would be up in arms a lot more than they are now. >> reporter: protesters say the

bakery broke state law by discriminating against the brides to be. >> business owners do have the right to refuse service to anyone but when that is based solely on someone's exual orientation, that is a crime. >> not so says danielle munch who showed up to protestify the protestors. she sides with the owners who say their religion is the rope they didn't bake the couple's cake. >> he believes in god and i does not believe in same-sex marriage. he shouldn't have to bake a cake for that. he should be able to freely deny them without all this backlash. >> reporter: despite the protest outside, sweet cakes was open for business. supportive customers lined up out the door. >> i appreciate the fact that they are standing up for what they believe in and i want to show them support since there are demonstrators not showing support. >> the owners say the backlash has been harsh but they're standing by their decision. >> make me feel good to know that even though everybody seems to think that portland
